I was inspired by the plethora of responses to the previous Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park responses that I decided to post another picture from the park. This is the Joan of Arc statue. If you look at her right hand, you can see that she is missing her sword.
what happened to her sword?? was it used in a park related crime?

ReplyDeleteWell I did some research and it seems the sword has been missing since at least 2006, that was the earliest pic with a date I found in my 5 minute research. Also an update on the name change -- In 1969, it was suppose to be renamed Malcolm X Park, but Congress wouldn't ratify the name. So that is more than I found yesterday. I found this on http://wdc-confidential.blogspot.com/ which was a DC photoblog until the author moved to France. There are still some lovely shots on there not just of DC but all over.
ReplyDeleteWell that settles it. The park shall be named Malcolm X Park. I guess we shouldn't be too surprised about the controversy. These are the same members of Congress that filibustered the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.
